G-VTS consists of GPS tracking system integrated with GIS software. It consists of two module oriented to GPS system implementation and GIS application integration with GPS system
G-VTS is developed using power of GIS to track and monitor the vehicle movements from centralized location (Server/Office). This helps in taking instantaneous decision regarding the making the things move smoothly.
Here the power of GIS is used to locate the vehicle on the road network using the vehicle location coordinates (Latitude and Longitude) extracted using the GPS fitted to the vehicle.
Database
A map database covering the tracking regions with relevant map layers will be used to serve maps to users. Relevant map database attributes are required to meet various queries. SQL Server will be used for storing GPS data.
Applications
Once information from Vehicle is received they need to be disseminated to users in a form, which would aid in decision-making. The user interface could revolve around a mapping application, which shows location of all Vehicles and would facilitate the following:
View latest location/ information
Generate reports on historical position
Trace path tacking by the Vehicle
Integrate any other existing applications/ databases to perform analysis and generate reports.
